The brief is very open and definitely gives us a chance to be creative; but that's both exciting and scary! We've been given a specific channel and target audience for the programme which I'll need to research, but other than that it's up to us. We can decide everything else ourselves, such as the genre, narrative, mise-en-scene etc. Although daunting, the brief seems very fun!
I decided straight away that I would like to create a fictional sequence, and I initially thought that producing a teen drama would be fun. But, after being given the specifics, I realised that a teen drama doesn't really fit the brief, so I then looked to a crime drama. This was because the focus on ITV, as well as the 18-35 target audience, makes me think of shows such as Broadchurch and Liar - and I don't know much about Channel 5. However, after some research into the Channel 5 schedule, I noticed a number of thrillers that I could perhaps base my project around.
Before deciding my genre, I will need to look at the types of show in more detail and the conduct my research accordingly to consolidate my ideas.
